First Up: How do you Know?
AZUZ: Autism is a brain disorder, one that thousands of kids will be diagnosed with this year alone. It's associated with different development issues, and it affects people in different ways. There's no cure for autism, but there are treatment options, so one of the biggest priorities is recognizing it. The first signs usually appear by age three. But what are they? Some parents of autistic children and a child therapist talk about what to look for.

This week, the world has come together to focus on a major public health issue that affects thousands of children and their families around the world -- autism.
We've all heard the heartfelt and poignant stories of families affected by this disorder. As the nation's health protection agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is made up of dedicated professionals, including many who are parents and grandparents of children affected by autism.
